Legacy Mural Project
Any and all 8th graders were invited to design a mural for the school - the second of an annual “legacy project”, where the students from that class get to “leave their mark” on their campus by choosing an artwork designed by one of their own to be painted on a wall at Muirlands.
Taking inspiration from muralists such as Eduardo Kobra, Kevin Ledo, Alice Pasquini, Shepard Fairey, who combine color, shape and text to create dynamic public artworks, student artists could design a mural for our school.
All 8th graders had an opportunity to view all the entries and voted for the one they think best communicates the theme. Student artists were anonymous until the final artwork was selected, then the artist was revealed!
Mural Requirements:
YOUR DESIGN MUST INCLUDE:
- A graphic-style or high contrast portrait of an important person from an underrepresented group (person of color, woman, person with a disability, etc.) A person from our region would be extra special.
- A quote from the important person paired with their portrait. The quote should reinforce school values, character, or an aspirational vision.
- Interesting typography - The words are in an interesting font/type and feel integrated with the rest of the design.
- A strong and thoughtful color scheme that helps to illustrate/express the message.
Muirlands 8th grade art students and Ms. Cox will paint the mural on the 100 building wall next to the art classroom before the end of the school year!
