8th Grade Promotion Ceremony
TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 2022, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The Promotion Ceremony will be held in the La Jolla High School Stadium. Please return the “Authorization for Student Participation” (Permission Slip) to your child’s Period 1 teacher on Monday, June 6, 2022.
All students participating in the promotion ceremony MUST have a signed permission slip!
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you would like your child to leave with you after the ceremony, please complete the “Absence Excuse Slip for Parent’s Signature” that is copied on the “Authorization for Student Participation” (Permission Slip). Students who do not return an “Absence Excuse Slip for Parent Signature” will return to Muirlands for the remainder of the school day.
On Monday, June 13, 2022, all students participating in the Promotion Ceremony shall report to their period 1 class by 8:35 a.m. Period 1 Teachers will escort their classes to the Muirlands Auditorium for Promotion Rehearsal. Student participation in the Promotion Rehearsal is mandatory to participate in the Promotion Ceremony.
The Promotion Ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. on June 14, 2022. Students MUST report to their period 1 class by 8:35 a.m.
Entering the Stadium and Seating:
Parents and guests must enter the LJHS Stadium at the gate on Fay St. (North of the pool). Please do not walk through La Jolla High School’s main campus. LJHS will still be in session during our Promotion Ceremony. Please do not park in the Muirlands or La Jolla High School parking lots.
Site Safety Control Measures:
- Per SDUSD guidelines, all attendees (staff, students, and guests) must review the daily symptom checklist at home before arriving at the event. If you answer “yes” to any symptoms, you must stay home. This process is an expectation but will not be checked at the event.
- Hand sanitizer and masks will be available at the stadium, and use is encouraged.
- Upon the ceremony's conclusion, we ask that there be no mingling after the event. Students will join their guests in the stands. Guests will not be allowed on the field.
Dress Code:
The regular school dress code will be in effect. The dress code will be reviewed again with students at the promotion rehearsal. If your student is unsure about their attire conforming to the school dress code, students can discuss their planned clothing with an administrator or counselor.
Students will not be permitted to bring any personal belongings to this event. For example, packs, purses, cameras, bouquets, leis, noisemakers, balloons, etc. will NOT be allowed inside the Muirlands auditorium or LJHS stadium.
Appropriate Dress Guidelines (Recommended)
Girls: Dresses, blouses/skirts, or business casual attire which are in line with the school dress code, and appropriate flat shoes (no flip-flops, tennis shoes, etc.). Spaghetti straps and sleeveless dresses require a cover-up. Pumps and heels are not recommended to reduce the potential of tripping while walking from Muirlands to LJHS and to protect the turf surface.
Boys: Slacks, dress shirts, and dress shoes (no flip-flops). Sport coats or suits are optional.
Disabled seating is available. Contact Deb Duncan, Administrative Assistant, [email protected] with requests for special accommodations.
Please do not bring balloon bouquets into the stadium as they can potentially block the view of other guests.
Thank you for your attention and understanding! We look forward to celebrating this special event in support of your children.
